ABOUT US

We are Kilian and Vanessa

We like to spend as much of our free time as possible outdoors in the mountains, whether running, climbing or riding our bikes. TrailnError is where we collect our tours, travels, photos and experiences.

Kilian and Vanessa in the mountains
Kilian

Kilian

He likes it cold. Winter is when Kilian feels most at home, whether ski touring or ice climbing. For him, summer is therefore mostly one thing: a constant wait for the cold to finally return.

That doesn't mean he sits around doing nothing during the warmer months. That's when you'll usually find him running in the mountains. Kilian used to compete in orienteering at a high level, and at least one thing has stuck with him from those days: a good sense of direction. While others are still figuring out where to go next, he usually already knows the way – uphill!

Vanessa

A machine in human form. Whether running or riding her bike, Vanessa always gives it everything. She's the one who launches a full-on attack with 100 vertical metres to go, just to make sure everyone knows who's in charge.

At least that's how it seems at first glance – and probably at second glance too. These spontaneous bursts of competitiveness might be a leftover from her days as a competitive athlete. As a heptathlete, she was already an all-rounder back then, and today she still takes on every new challenge with a mischievous grin. Climbing is about the only thing that can still keep her somewhat in check. But probably not for much longer.

Why TrailnError?

TrailnError isn't about every tour going perfectly. What motivates us is trying new things and taking on challenges that might be a little beyond what we've done before. Good planning is just as much a part of that as being able to rethink things along the way.

Mistakes, uncertainty and changes of plan are part of being in the mountains. The weather doesn't cooperate, equipment causes problems or you're simply not feeling your best that day. That's when the plan changes – or when it's time to turn around.

Those are exactly the moments we don't want to leave out of our tour reports. If something didn't work, we had to change our plans or a tour turned out completely differently than expected, that's just as much a part of the story as reaching the summit or the finish.

Error is part of the game.
